Tom Saunders was quite simply the best at everything he attempted. And he attempted a lot!. He was a legendary investment banker -- honest, perceptive, creative -- A visionary philanthropist -- who helped shape the future of, among others, the Darden School at the University of Virginia, Montecello, the United States Marine Corps Foundation, and the Morgan Library in New York. With his wife Jordan, the love of his life, he built institutions, endowed scholarships, and assembled one of the greatest collections of Old Master works of art in existence in private hans. He worked hard, yet he had a lot of fun -- and his joy in life inspired all of us who were privileged to be his friend. Rest in Peace, dear Tom. There will never be another like you. Judy Hope

I knew Tom only slightly. Another great graduate of VMI, Robert H. Patterson VMI'49c introduced us and we had several great conversations. A true Renaissance man who lived and taught the VMI ideals mentioned in the article.

Tom Saunders III was a Dollar Tree Board Member for all of the 16 years I worked at Dollar Tree. He was everything listed in his Obituary and more. His passing is sad and he will be missed. God Bless Tom and his family.
