Victor Lester Newman

Victor Lester Newman died in Columbia, Maryland on November 3, 2012. He was 92.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 3, 1919, Victor was the son of Morris and Betty Newman and the brother of his late sister Sylvia Knapp of Boynton Beach, Florida. He lived most of his life in New York, and owned a home in Elmont, LI, from 1953 to 2009.

In 1942, Victor received his pharmacy degree from Brooklyn College of Pharmacy and married his beloved wife Evelyne that same year. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Army reserves for ten years after the war.

His long and varied career as a pharmacist included working in a pharmacy in Greenpoint, and owning a drugstore in downtown Brooklyn. He also worked as a hospital pharmacist at Bellevue Hospital in Queens.

He loved to travel and learn. He and Evelyne traveled to Israel, Japan, France, Belgium and many more. They traveled within the U.S. as well, often taking advantage of Elderhostel opportunities along the way.

Most important for Victor was his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyne Newman (nee Levine) for 57 years. He is survived by three daughters: Marcia Dresner and her husband Norman, of Severn, MD; Betty Bianconi, of Littleton, NC, and Fellis Jordan and her husband Harold, of Cheshire, CT. He was a doting grandfather to his five grandchildren; Jonathan Dresner and his wife Woody, Michael (Alex) Dresner and his wife Kimberly, Rebekah Jordan, David Jordan and his wife Loryn Udell, and Erika Wolinsky and her husband Ryan. He adored his four great-grandchildren; Shawn, Samantha and Max Dresner, and Rhyer Simon.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 5, at Beth Moses Cemetery in Pinelawn, New York. Donations in his memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
