WALLACE SOKOLSKY Obituary

SOKOLSKY--Wallace.

91, died July 27th, 2017. He enjoyed a prolific six decade career as a professor of history at City College, NYU, The New School for Social Research, and Bronx Community College. After formal retirement, he lectured on contemporary political events at the 92nd Street Y, Kittay House, and the Five Star Premier Residences, giving his last lecture series at the age of 89. He co-wrote African Nationalism in the Twentieth Century with Hans Kohn, Ideas That Made Modern History and The World and The West with George Lankevich, and wrote articles on African history for the Encyclopedia Britannica. An ingenious woodworker and writer, and an aficionado of The New York Times, he is lovingly remembered by his partner, Sylvia Eversole; his children, Anita, Andrew, and Laurie; his grandchildren, Maya Kane and Sam Sokolsky-Tifft; and his sons-in-law, Glover Taylor and Stephen Tifft. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 31, at 2pm at Riverside Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Diabetes Association or contributing a tribute gift in memory of Wallace Sokolsky to Bronx Community College, which will help establish a fund to support outstanding student scholarship.

He was the most memorable professor that i’ve ever had. At the age of 54 i still now remember him giving us strict guidelines as to how we were to conduct ourselves as well as speak in his class .. RIP sir and thank you ❤
