WALTER H. WEINER Obituary
Born in Brooklyn, New York passed away at his home in New York City, on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the age of 85, after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Nina (formerly Avidar), his sons Tom and Jon, his daughter-in-law, Tracy, his grandson Josh, his brother, Dr. Roy, Weiner, Schlieder Chair in Medical Oncology and Associate Dean School of Medicine at Tulane University, and his wife, Marjorie. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Sidney. He leaves behind a large loving family of nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Verdeen from California. A lawyer at Kronish, Lieb, Weiner & Hellman that he helped found in 1965, Walter, who completed his B.A. degree and J.D.Law at University of Michigan in 1953, was the CEO of Republic National Bank of New York for 25 years, until he retired. Walter was a multi- talented charismatic man with a great joie de vivre and many interests. He was widely recognized for his humanitarian, philanthropic and civic activities and he shared his love of Israel with his wife, but above all was a shepherd to his large family. Funeral Services at Temple Israel Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:30am, 112 East 75th Street. The family will be sitting Shiva on Tuesday: 5pm-8pm, Wednesday: 11am-1pm, and 5pm-8pm, Thursday 11am- 1pm and 5pm-8pm.

Nina: I heard the news this morning and wanted to express my sadness at learning of Walter's death. There were times when we enjoyed each other a great deal and I will not forget them or him. He was a good man. My condolences.

I met Walter Weiner through his daughter-In-law many years ago. I was invited to his home for a few Sabbath dinners. What I remember most was his charisma, charm and kindness to me even when we didn't agree on issues we were discussing.
