ZENA STEIN Obituary

STEIN--Zena. The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center of Columbia University mourns the passing of our dear co-founder, Dr. Zena Stein. A legend in her own time, she led ground-breaking studies of the effects of starvation during pregnancy on neurodevelopmental disorders and made seminal contributions to understanding the global reach of mental and physical disability. She was a powerful voice for the necessity for rigorous, well-informed research to address the needs of women and a pioneer in HIV prevention for women. She was an inspiration to generations and a role model to countless women in balancing family and profession in their scientific careers. Her work was deeply infused with an uncompromising commitment to challenging injustice and systems of oppression in health care. It is an honor to continue her important work. Heartfelt condolences to the Stein-Susser family. Louise Kuhn, PhD; Ruth Ottman, PhD; Richard Mayeux, MD
