Joe Hare, Clark Hudson, Anna Breeden Stickney, my mother, and many others from "old Auburn families" all attended school together at LCHS (later AHS) and at API (later AU) and were good friends. Joe and his sweet wife were like godparents to me and knew me since my birth. When Ward Bryant and I married, Joe Hare worked at what was then called the Bank of Auburn
and he loaned us money and counseled with us about making good money decisions. My love and deepest sympathy go out to the entire Hare family who I grew up with. The Wilmore family, who I am decented from, has been friends with the Hare family for generations. Joe Hare has left behind a fine legacy with four children and many grandchildren who have good principles and good moral compasses. Joe Hare will be greatly missed but he will live on through his descendents and the many friends who love him. I agree with his daughter Bonnie that they broke the mold after Joe was created.

He was like a father to me. One of the greatest men I ever knew. He did his best to teach me and Bobby and Sid how to live our lives. Bobby and Sid learned a bit better than I did, but I am still trying to do the things that Mr. Hare told us to do. He was a man who said exactly what he thought, and no apologies for it. Gosh, I loved that man.
