Buck Marsh was a man among men. Small in stature but huge in character. I miss you buddy and I´ll see you soon.

I met Buck at a book signing for `Spearhead´ and subsequently made one of my WWII plaques for him and presented it to he and Wanda in 2012 in their beautiful home. My son and I took him to lunch in 2013 and is a memory my son will always cherish. Your transition from ASTP to common rifleman was sudden but an honor as you had a ringside seat for Clarence Smoyer´s (RIP 9-30-22) feat of tank gunnery at the Cologne Cathedral in March `45. RIP, Buck.

My memory of Buck is from September 2019, when I met him at the Bronze Star ceremony for his buddy Clarence. I was standing with a friend of mine talking about the event, and someone with Buck pointed me toward Buck and said, "You can tie a necktie, right? Help tie Buck´s tie." Not hesitating, I went up to him, and realizing his short stature, I tied his tie from behind him, as my dad would have when I was a youngster. After a few introductions, the ceremony went off, but afterwards was when the real magic of the day began. We all headed off toward the M4 Sherman tank that was pulled up onto the Mall. I climbed up onto the back deck, and after a few minutes I heard from behind me, "Hey! Help me up!" So I helped Buck up onto the tank. He hadn´t lost his touch from nearly 75 years prior. His stories were of humorous times and heartwarming remembrances of his buddies. When it came time, we helped him down by using a barrier as a ladder for him. It was soon time for us all to part, but I will ALWAYS remember the smile on his face that day. Thank you, Buck, for making such a great impression. I wish I could have stayed in touch better, but I understand the need for your privacy too. To Buck´s family, my most sincere condolences, and my thanks for sharing him with me that day. He will not ever be forgotten.
