Peter Minc Obituary
January 9, 1949 - September 24, 2023
Peter (Piotr) Minc, age 74, died in his home in Auburn, on September 24, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Warsaw, Poland, where he earned a Doctorate in Mathematics from the prestigious Warsaw University.
In 1982, he came with his family to America and became a professor and later professor emeritus at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University. A loving husband and father, Peter Minc was an avid bicyclist and art collector. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Krystyna; and his son Greg. In lieu of funeral services, the family asks that all who wish to honor Dr. Minc's life make a donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

During all those years in the math department, Piotr and I maintained a very friendly relationship. We didn't always agree; in fact, we frequently disagreed and had lively discussions about all manner of topics. But Piotr was the kind of person with whom you could vigorously disagree and still be friends. That's a rare gift, which, in this case, made our otherwise less than perfect department a much better place...
