Steven Fulaytar Obituary

Steven Fulaytar

December 5, 1962 - December 23, 2022

Steven B. Fulaytar, Colonel, USAF (Retired) passed away on 23 December 2022 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. He has gone on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Steve is survived by his wife Samantha, his two sons Justin and Mark, his parents Don and Anita Fulaytar, his sister Cheryl Payson and brother-in-law Ric Payson, and his brother Chris Fulaytar.

Steve dedicated 32 years of service to the military. He served in the Alabama Air National Guard, active duty Air Force, and the Air Force Reserve.

He dreamt of being a pilot from a very young age. He flew the T-37, T-38, WC-135, and C-130 in the military. He went on to become a commercial airline pilot on the 727, MD-88, and 737.

Steve loved his family. He was a great husband, wonderful father, a good son and brother, and a mentor to many. He leaves behind his family, friends from childhood, high school, & Auburn University, fellow pilots, and the military service members he was honored to serve with.

Steve will be buried at the National Cemetery at Montevallo, AL on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:45 a.m.

I served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve for 46 1/2 years (including Civil Service). I served many commanders, but the best one in my opinion, was Steve Fulaytar. He always put "Doing the right thing" above all, and he knew how to deal with people, regardless if it was to hold people accountable for their actions or to give proper recognition to those who went above and beyond in the performance of their duties. He was, pure and simple, the epitome' of an outstanding commander. That, coupled with being a caring and considerate person, made him the type of person that people wanted to be around. He made my life better by just being part of it. May he rest in eternal peace, and may God watch over his wonderful family.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I worked with Steve at HQ AFRC Recruiting and enjoyed talking with him about college football and his beloved Auburn Tigers.

May God Bless and comfort your family until you meet again.
