Charles L. "Charlie" Ogburn, 86, of Washington, was called home to Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 4, 2024. He was born August 10, 1937 in Nitro, West Virginia a son of the late Charles Joseph and Mabel Irene Asbury Ogburn. Charlie was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish. Charlie graduated from Nitro High School in 1955 and earned his Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the West Virginia University in 1960. He was a gentleman farmer starting in 1980 and retired from Bayer Corporation as the Facility Manager for their U.S. Headquarters in Pittsburgh, in 1999. In his free time, Charlie enjoyed restoring vehicles and farm equipment, working on his farm, woodworking, raising dogs for the Leader Dogs for the Blind, and participating in the activities his children loved such as scouts, 4H, tee ball, and go-kart racing. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a 35 year member and multiple office holder of the Hickory Lions Club, and a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. On August 22, 1959 in Lewisburg, West Virginia, Charlie married the love of his life, Melinda "Linda" Bell. They remained devoted to each other in love from that day until the end of his earthly journey. Throughout his adult life, he set an example by humbly and selflessly serving his God, his wife, his family, his friends, and his community. Surviving along with his wife are three sons, Charles Joseph "Joey" (Nancy) Ogburn II of Hickory, John "Grady" (Janine Rihmland) Ogburn of Canonsburg, and Patrick L. (Julie) Ogburn of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Lori (David) Ward of Hickory and Patricia (Scott) Wolfe of Venetia; 16 grandchildren, Chase, Andrew, and Hannah Ogburn, Natalie and Anthony Rihmland, Adam Ward, Emma and Kiboh Uchida, Wade, Grant, Gabriel, and Jamie Ogburn, and Mackenzie Seymour, Mikaela Halaja, Jake and Kess Wolfe; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Hedrick. All funeral services will be private out of respect for the health and well-being of all family and friends. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at a later date.
