Charles Roy Rogers Jr.

1981 - 2021

Charles "Chip" Roy Rogers Jr., 39, of Pittsburgh, died April 6, 2021, at Family Hospice, UPMC Canterbury Place, after a two-year battle with Glioblastoma.

Chip faced his illness with strength and grace, and often with more concern for those around him than for himself. He donated his body to the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where he had participated in a clinical trial, in the hopes of helping advance and improve treatment for others who develop Glioblastoma.

He was born December 27, 1981, in Washington, the son of Charles "Chuck" Roy Rogers Sr. and Tami Jo White Rogers.

Chip graduated from Trinity High School in 2000, where he was involved in the Upward Bound Program at Waynesburg College for three years and the Penn State Math & Science Program at Penn State's main campus. He graduated from Grove City College in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in physics and a minor in computer science.

He had worked for several companies in and around Pittsburgh. Most recently, Chip worked as the Associate Director of Enterprise Applications for the global law firm of K&L Gates. Chip fostered a talented, dynamic team of engineers who carry on his legacy of creatively solving tough problems. He was a beloved colleague known for equal brilliance and humor that will be truly missed.

Chip was Christian by faith.

Chip was devoted to his friends and family. He always showed up for someone in need. Chip's presence – his solidness, his strong moral center, his love – made those around him want to be better people. He believed a person is defined by the quality of the life they lead and the relationships they have, and he always made the effort to ensure everyone was included.

Chip had a passion for bicycling and was known to take long bike rides, even making from the Point in Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. ride (to visit friends, of course). He also loved to ride his motorcycles. He took many trips with friends and even one solo trip around the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. He loved walking, hiking, skiing and traveling. He loved adventure and always took the scenic route.

Chip shared his life and his home with Kristy Arnold, who stood by him through his best and worst times. Chuck and Tami say Kristy has been "Chip's angel here on Earth".

He leaves behind Kristy Arnold; parents, Chuck and Tami Rogers; grandparents, Charles and Brenda Rogers, Edward "Sonny" Thomas and Julie White; aunts and uncles, Debbie Rogers, Mike and Joan Rogers, Tena and James Harding, B.J. Lindsay, David and Kathy White and Jodi Nicolella; and great-aunt and great-uncle, Sandy and George Wiley, who Chip vacationed with every summer growing up. He also leaves numerous cousins, coworkers and many friends who were family to him. They rallied around him for the past 25-plus months; Chip referred to them all as his "Tribe."

Preceding Chip in death was his brother, Justin Daniel Rogers; grandmother, Mary Jane Thomas; and grandfather, Melvin Leroy White.
