Darryl R. Porter, more affectionately known as "Big Head" by his friends, 79, of Finleyville, passed away peacefully in Jefferson Hospital on Sunday, June 18, 2023, with his loving wife and son at his side.
Darryl was born in Finleyville, on November 7, 1943, he was the son of late Everett R Porter and Helen Keifer Porter.
He was the husband of Joyce L. Pontier Porter, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage; father of Wayne (Rhonda) Porter of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and grandfather of Ashley (Zachary) Yamashita and Chad (Ayako) Porter.
Darryl was a retired T&D Sr. Operator Troubleman (E4) for Duquesne Light Company, retiring in 2008, after 38 years of service. A member of the IBEW, Darryl was a 1961 graduate of Monongahela High School. He was also a member of the Finleyville American Legion Post 613 and was known to be an avid sports enthusiast.
Over his lifetime he thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, basketball, baseball, football and golfing with friends. He was also a die-hard Pittsburgh "Stillers" and Penguins fan.
He is also survived by his sister, June Marks of Bridgton, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews; and he leaves behind many close and lifelong friends.
In addition to his parents, Darryl was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne B. Porter; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Antonette Pontier; a brother-in-law, John Marks; a sister-in-law, Lynne Porter; and his faithful Shih-Tzu, Mookie, whom he dearly loved.
