David Kunkle Obituary

David Erwin Kunkle, 89, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Parkview Care Center. David was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 5, 1936 son of the late R. Earl and Renee Frizzi Kunkle and raised in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Midway High School and honorably served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked at Pennsylvania Transformer for the majority of his career until he retired as a supervisor. David was a sports enthusiast and an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Whether it was the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins or the University of Pittsburgh, he was always their biggest fan. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Evansville alongside his wife, Marilyn. David played slow-pitch softball with his son and enjoyed the game of golf. He found great joy cheering on the University of Southern Indiana softball team where his daughter has been the coach for going on 25 years. David adored his family and was an extremely proud father. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. David is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet "Marilyn" Galbraith Kunkle; daughter, Sue Kunkle; son, David Scott Kunkle (Lisa); siblings, Jayne Lemon (George) and Robert Kunkle (Lynette); grandchildren, Morgan Kunkle, Sydney Kunkle and Justin Kunkle; great-granddaughter, Presley Kunkle; and by many beloved nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents. Friends and family may visit from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. Private services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Beth McCandless officiating.
