Dorothy Sickles Obituary

Dorothy Jean Sickles, 95, of Claysville, formerly Chartiers Township, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 18, 2025, in her home. She was born November 20, 1929, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Wright Nicholas. Jean was a 1949 graduate of Trinity High School. She had worked as a butcher for the former A&P in Canonsburg and Kroger in Washington. Mrs. Sickles was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Canonsburg. Jean enjoyed playing cards, walking, her soap operas, baking, and being a farmer's wife. She was a friend to everyone and everyone's friend. Jean often chatted on the phone and would always look out for her neighbors. On November 26, 1953, she married James M. Sickles, who died August 26, 2012. Surviving are three children, Judy Weaver (Ken) of Avon, Ind., Janis Chico (Jeff) of Canonsburg, and James A. Sickles (Charlotte) of Claysville; five grandchildren, Brianne Winston (Randy), Bethany Estep (Mike), Brittni Weaver, Alexandra Lupton (Rob) and Christopher Gooch (Samantha); 10 great- grandchildren; a sister- in-law, Gillian Sickles of Bridgeport, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, a brother and his wife, Robert and Lola Nicholas, are deceased. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
