Dwayne Durham Obituary

Dwayne Durham, lovingly known as "Bull," 79, of Washington, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Born in Aliquippa, Dwayne dedicated his life to service, family and faith. He proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning his law enforcement career as an Aliquippa City Police Officer. He later served with distinction as a Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant. Dwayne was a graduate of Penn State University earning an associate degree. In 1999, he was recognized by the County Bar Association for his dedication and integrity, always known as a "big man with a bigger heart." He was also recognized as a Paul Powers Man of Honor, a ministry dedicated to equipping men to cultivate a culture of honor in their homes, workplaces, and churches. This was truly a reflection of his lifelong devotion to leadership and community. Dwayne was a lifetime member of the NAACP and served faithfully as pastor of West Union Presbyterian Church. He shared his compassion as a counselor with the Washington County Jail prison ministry, worked with the City Mission and mentored young people through the Big Brother program. His love of fishing, writing and helping others brought joy to both him and those fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered by many as kind, caring, and deeply supportive. Dwayne is survived by his beloved wife, Sonnie Durham; his children: Dwayna Durham, Dwayne Durham II and Erica Durham; his brothers, George Durham and Eric Durham; and sisters, Angela and Donna. He was the proud grandfather of: Tajan, Aliyah, Dasean, Jaslene and Olivia; as well as 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Durham and Mildred Patterson; and by his brothers, Willie and Ernest. Above all, Dwayne's life was marked by faith, love and service to others. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner / Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Air Force. Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com

Yesterday

My Brother Paul Loved Big Dwayne. Paul called me several times when he was meeting with Dwayne. I would answer my phone and Paul would say; "Hey Steve, I am having breakfast with Big Dwayne. Here, Say Hello" Then Paul would hand his old cell phone to Dwayne. Paul and Dwayne were both Men of Honor. With Great Respect, Steve Powers

Sonnie and family , I am sorry to hear of Dwayne's passing ! I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago when he helped me and my son when my car broke down , I didn´t know then he was married to Sonnie , a life long friend . The "Village People" and Buddy, Dwayne´s faithful canine friend will feel the loss of our faithful servant forever. His commitment and compassion radiated spreading God´s love to everyone he met. This gentle giant of a man was a natural in the pulpit. His spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Our sympathies and our love is extended to Sonnie and his Family.

YOU all are in my thoughts and prayers. Please don't hesitate to reach out informing me what I can do to help you. I know this is difficult , I also know Dwayne served for God...not for any self acclaim. He was prepared and lived to go to his heavenly home as his life reflected. I thank God for sharing Dwayne in my and my family's life as a true friend. I also pray for God to hold you tightly immersing HIS strength and comfort on you. God will never abandon you and HE makes no mistakes. Celebrate the life Dwayne lived and pray those of us living will completely give ourselves to Jesus Christ. I love you all, Sonnie, Erica, Ms Eleanor and Olivia.

Many years ago, on a very cold and snowy winter night, my car had a flat tire on I-70 outside of Washington. There was a spare tire but no jack. As I sat in the car trying to decide what to do next (this was before cell phones), a PA State Police car pulled up behind me. Out stepped Trooper Durham, who didn´t just express concern - he actually changed the tire for me! I knew Dwayne from working at the county jail and probation and he was always gracious and kind and concerned about others, including people he arrested. (He took some flak from fellow troopers about that!) He was a good man who will be missed.

Condolences to Dwayne's family during this difficult time. I was a classmate of Dwayne's at the State Police Academy in Hershey in 1973 and later a co-worker at Troop S Washington in the late 1970s. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Bull's passing. In my 4 decade career as a reporter, he was one my favorites to work with. Kind and honorable
Even after his retirement, if we ran into each other at the grocery store, I would get a big smile and hug.
Just a wonderful man. Condolences to his family
