Geraldine Churney Obituary

Geraldine Margaret Churney, 88, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Paramount Senior Living. She was born November 22, 1936, a daughter of the late Francis Andrew and Margaret Ann Yanosik Marcischak. Gerrie lived her life in Canonsburg, and graduated from Cecil High School, where she was a majorette in the Class of 1954. She then graduated from the Stenotype Institute of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Churney had been employed as a lunch lady at the First Street School, McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg, worked in County Clerk of Courts Metro Petrosky's office and, prior to her retirement, was a deputy in the Register of Wills Department of Washington County. She was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church. Gerrie enjoyed Pittsburgh sports especially the Steelers and Pirates, playing cards, and was a member of the Democratic Women. She also served on her class reunion committees. On June 1, 1957, she married Francis V. Churney, who passed away April 4, 2020, after 62 years of marriage. Left behind are her beloved children, Adrienne Podrasky, Terry (Kelly) Churney, Margaret (Eric) Coss, and Jan (Melinda) Churney; her sister, Carolyn (Peter) Barthelemy; nine grandchildren, Alexis and Colton (Ali) Coss, Zack (Lauren) Podrasky, Conrad (Hunter) Churney, Cassidy and Kendall Churney, Kara Podrasky, and Kaitlyn and Dustin Powell; great- grandchildren, Jett Shady-Coss, Lucianna Coss, and Reagan, Madison and Kennedy Podrasky. Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is her son-in-law, James "Po" Podrasky. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 5, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner / supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, (724)745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:10 a.m. Monday. October 6. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.
