Gordon Lee Downey, 64, of Apollo, died Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in Havencrest Healthcare & Rehab Center, Monongahela.
He was born February 21, 1957, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Thomas Francis Jr. and Marilyn Frances Berty Downey.
He graduated from Canon-McMillan High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980 and then in the National Guard.
He enjoyed helping people, hiking and swimming.
He worked as a dock worker for Roadway Express, Carlisle.
Surviving are the mother of his children, Deborah Eileen Downey Baker; and two sons, Justin Downey and Jeremy Downey, all of Apollo; five sisters, Peggy Sue Wagner of Washington, Patty Lynn Seville of North Pittsburgh, Marilee Francis Downey of Washington, Rose Marie (George) Broznick of Canonsburg and Mary Jane (Terry) Shuba of Chartiers Township; two brothers, Robert Frances (Elizabeth) Ward of Washington and Burl James (Margorie) Coen of Meadow Lands; many nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother Margaret Welch Berty; and sister Georgetta Ward.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, with Pastor Don Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Venice Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by Canonsburg VFW 191 Honor Guard.
