Janet Marie Block

With heavy hearts, the family of Janet Marie Block announce her passing on Sunday, August 10, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home in Crucible. Born April 11, 1984, in Morgantown, W.Va., she was the daughter of Gary and Cheryl Demaske Block of Crucible. Janet graduated in 2005 from Carmichaels Area High School. She attended Pathways of Southwestern Pennsylvania in Greene County from 2005 until the present. She also enjoyed participating in the day programs and activities with Family Ties. Janet was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Churches of Greene County. She enjoyed going to her day programs, dances and activities, and family vacations to Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was a fan of the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an almost daily visitor at her Grandma Leona's home and was very proud and happy to be Aunty Janet to her beloved nephew, Connor Rychtarsky. Janet is survived by her parents; her sister, Pamela Rychtarsky (Matthew) of Jefferson; grandmother, Leona Block of Crucible; uncle, Stan Block (Tammy) of Waynesburg; aunt, Kathy Phillips of Greensboro; uncle, Andy Demaske of Rices Landing; many cousin;, and a special friend, Holly Kerns. Janet also leaves behind her beloved cat, Shadow Marie. Deceased are a brother, Vincent Block; grandfather, Stanley Block; grandparents, Andrew and Beverly Demaske; and uncle, Charles Phillips. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 15, in the Behm Funeral Home, Jefferson, where departing prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Marcellus Catholic Church, Jefferson, with The Reverend Francis Frazer. In memory of Janet, please wear her favorite color, purple. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Crucible at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Family Ties, 1579 McClellandtown Rd., McClellandtown, PA 15458.
