John G. Dunn, of Weirton, W.Va., formerly of Burgettstown, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
John was born October 5, 1938, in Burgettstown. He married his Burgettstown Union High School sweetheart, Marie F. Tunno, and danced through life with her and their two daughters, Rea and Lisa, as well as his four grandchildren, family and friends.
In 1964, with a newborn daughter in tow, John served his country in the United States Air Force. The Air Force relocated them to London, England, where their second daughter was born. After traveling a bit with the Air Force, they settled in Burgettstown, where John lived with the motto "if you are not having fun, it is your own fault."
John was a natural athlete. He grew up on the baseball mound pitching for many teams including in high school and the Air Force. When he hung up his glove his passion turned to golf. In fact, John would golf year-round with his brother-in-law and best friend, Joe Tunno, even when they could only play three holes and lost a few balls under the snow. John considered himself lucky in life and his seven holes in one were proof of that!
John worked as an operator at Quaker State Oil Refinery (Ergon) in Chester, W.Va., for 26 years, while Marie was a nursing supervisor and administrator at Weirton Medical.
All who knew John will remember his fun-loving nature, and as someone who was always quick to flash a smile and share a laugh. But it is his daughters that knew him best and believed he was also an amazing father and a genuinely kind and loving man. He filled their hearts with joy, love and laughter and will be greatly missed.
Most of all, John will be remembered for his love for his family, and their time spent together, especially his grandchildren, Katy, Elliot, Sarah, and Kevin John. He was so very proud of them.
He was blessed with two families as he considered his wife's family his family as well.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Marie F. Tunno Dunn in 2001; his mother, Katherine Oshanka Dunn; his sisters, Connie Valduga and Linda Rogers; and his brother, James Dunn.
He will be remembered with love by his daughters, Maria Royce (Mark), and Malisa Summers (Jason Lipscomb); grandchildren, Katy and Sarah Scruppi, and Elliot Willis Royce and Kevin John Royce; his brothers, Donald, William (Babs) and Jack (Beth) Dunn; his sisters, Betty Castellino, Shirley Reed and Charlotte Christopher (Jim); many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 1 until the 3 p.m. time of service Sunday, June 5, in the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home.
The American Legion Post #10 and the United States Air Force will provide orders.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of his passion for the sport of baseball, his family requests donations be made, in his honor, to Burgettstown Area Youth Baseball Association, P.O. Box 91, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
