John was a good classmate of mine throughout high school. I remember him as always being friendly and a smile for everyone. I lost contact with him but reading the comments of others, I see he continued to be that "good guy" throughout his life. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends...

This is so sad! I met John at Laboratory School when we were in first or second grade. We were good friends through elementary and high school at Trinity. I have many fond memories of him from those days. Then we were 2 of the 4 '66 THS grads to go on to IUP. We remained friends at IUP and often shared rides home for vacations. I also was in ROTC with him at IUP, though I did not get my commission till January '71 because I graduated late. I that point I lost track of John, though I may have seen him at one of the THS reunions.
I would like to tell Diane that my wife Linda and I recently wrote a book about our lives and one of the chapters was about friends in elementary and high school. I not only mentioned John's name in this book, but I put in a picture of he and I when we were in 5th grade. I would be happy to share that and some other pictures I have with you. [email protected]
Again this so sad, and I am so sorry for your loss. This has hit me especially hard because I am presently being treated for prostate cancer.
I will be unable to attend his service since I now live in eastern PA. But please realize I will be there in spirit. So sorry Diane. RIP John! THS '66 and IUP '70.

While his obituary does not mention it, John was a 1966 graduate of Trinity High School. I met John when his Elementary school (Laboratory) and mine (Patten) joined at the long-since closed Clark School on Jefferson Avenue for 7th and 8th grades before entering Trinity as the last class to attend the "old school." I had the pleasure of re-connecting with John at the 50th reunion of the THS 1966 class in 2016. John was a quiet, honorable and dependable man who will be missed.

I met and had the good fortune to work with John when I was president of the local Chamber of Commerce. We had programs on economic education in both the Greater Latrobe and Derry Area schools, and John was our Greater Latrobe faculty liaison for many years. Following his retirement, we invited John to do several projects (mostly repairs) around our home over the years. John was a great guy of high integrity; a tall, soft-spoken man with a strong presence.
You will be missed, John. May God welcome you in His loving embrace and may you rest in peace.
