John Organiscak Obituary

John Anthony Organiscak, 67, of Eighty Four, passed away Thursday evening, September 18, 2025, at UMPC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. He was born August 3, 1958, in Washington, a son of the late Joseph J. Organiscak and Julia V. Dobrinski Organiscak. John came from a family of coal miners. When John was three years old his father died as the result of a coal mining accident. This influenced John's dedication to improve the health and safety of coal miners. After graduating from Bentworth High School, he received a BS in Mining Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from Duquesne University. John's career with the US Bureau of Mines as a mining engineer began in 1981. In 1996, he was transferred with his co-workers to NIOSH. John became nationally and internationally known for his expertise in dust control in both underground and surface mining industries. John developed a mathematical model that has been used by ISO, as well as by consultants and mining companies to improve air quality in all types of enclosed cabs used in mining, construction, and agricultural industries. As a direct result of John's work, miners in the United States, as well as around the world have benefited from lower respirable dust levels. John was respected and admired by his co-workers as well as his industry partners. He retired in 2018 after 37 years of service. In addition to his passion for his work, John was also an avid marksman, hunter, all around outdoorsman, as well as a golfer. John was also a very devout Christian. He was a parishioner at the former Ave Maria Parish, which is now St. Katharine Drexel Parish. He served in various capacities including: Evangelization Core Team, Christ Life program, Finance Council, Building and Grounds Committee, and Office Assistant. He was involved in various Bible studies over the years. Surviving are his wife, Joan Sexton Organiscak; sisters, Lorraine Havrilla (Nick) and Agnes Rusilko (Allen "Tex"); and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Organiscak and Joe's wife, Melissa. Friends are welcome from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Katharine Drexel, Bentleyville Campus, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with the Reverend Edward J. Yuhas, as celebrant. Interment will be held Wednesday, September 24, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray. I had the pleasure of meeting John as a co-worker of NIOSH. I am also a Bentworth grad (1991). John was a good guy. My deepest sympathy.
