Joseph Anthony "JoJo" Romano, Sr., 81, of Pickens, S.C., loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, in his home. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Cheryl S. Romano; son, Joseph Romano Jr. and wife Carol of North Wales; and stepchildren, Sean Donohue, and Maureen Riddle and husband Chris Riddle.
He was born February 2, 1942, in Washington, to parents Dominick Romano and Rose Belotti. His older siblings included Dominick "Scooter" Romano, Russell Roveno, and Isabelle Loughman. They are now all together playing golf and eating to their hearts content.
He graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, where he excelled at baseball, wrestling and football. In the '60s, JoJo played AAA baseball and had the honor to play for the Chicago Cubs for a few games then later teaching kids in the Washington Pony League and South Franklin Township to play the game.
He worked as a Baltimore Life Insurance salesman receiving multiple awards, and was the previous owner of Golden Lion on Chestnut Street. He was a store manager at Tee to Green, and starter for The Rookery, both in Delaware.
He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Alpine Club, and a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church.
Golfing was his true-life passion; he was a member of the Greene County Country Club. For anyone who remembers JoJo golfing or out and about, he was always seen matching from head-to-toe.
His wife, Cheryl was his true love. He would go to the end of the world to be there for her even in his last days. He was known as her "House Mouse" and for taking care of their pets. His grandkids also meant the world to him, and he was always willing to brag about them to anyone who would listen.
His grandkids include Nicholas Romano of Philadelphia, Christian Romano of Charlotte, N.C., and Chloe Romano of North Wales; Tracy, Marcus and Connor Riddle of Richlands, N.C.; and Sabrinna Donohue of North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Romano; his nephew, Dominic Romano; and nieces, Pam Phillips, Nicole Phillips and Bethany Romano.
Be sure to bring your golf cart, cigar, and your clubs and listen to his story the next time you see him.
