Mark FitzGerald Obituary

Mark David "Red" FitzGerald of Hickory, passed away peacefully Friday, July 5, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born September 26, 1952, in Charleston W.Va., to John F. and Helen Gunn FitzGerald. The family later moved to Mt. Lebanon, where he attended High School and went on to attend Williamsport Area Community College where he studied Service Operations in Heavy Equipment. After graduation, he worked for Duquesne Slag. With Rumors of layoffs circulating he decided to go into business for himself, eventually leading to many successful business endeavors including: McMurray Nursery, MDF Excavating, various consulting and contracting with Range Resources. Red enjoyed escaping to his cabin in Kings Mountain on the weekends, golfing, riding quads and snowmobiles. He loved the Penguins and attended many hockey games with his family. He built his dream Timber-frame home on 22 acres where he enjoyed out his early retirement. He also enjoyed talking politics and we're positive he's happy to miss the upcoming election and will never have to write another check to the government. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Laurel Hibler FitzGerald; his loving children, Jessica L. (Wayne Thompson) FitzGerald and William J. (Natalie) FitzGerald; and his grandchildren, Zoe FitzGerald and Ronan FitzGerald; sister, MaryEllen FitzGerald Collins, sister-in-law, Maebeth (the late John "Rusty") FitzGerald; and niece, Erin (Yusuf) Kazmi. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his brothers, John "Rusty" FitzGerald and Peter FitzGerald; and nephew, Michael FitzGerald. A memorial will be held at a later date.
