Martin Kubica Obituary

Martin J. Kubica, 89, of Monongahela, died Thursday, January 28, 2016, in the Havencrest Nursing Home, Monongahela.
He was born September 17, 1926, in New Salem, a son of Martin J. and Julia Barnecosak Kubica.
Mr. Kubica was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
In the late 1950s, he worked at his brother's trucking company in Royal Oak, Mich. After working with his brother Matthew, he moved to Monongahela where he made his home.
He retired from Maple Creek Mine, was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish (former Transfiguration Church) in Monongahela and Carroll American Legion James C. Ford Post 949 in Dunkirk.
Mr. Kubica was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning his homegrown vegetables. On average, he canned more than 1,000 jars annually. He had a passion for fishing trips and would visit the Outer Banks in North Carolina every couple months. For the past few years, he had caregivers that he loved spending time with. His family extends appreciation to every one of them for everything that they have done for him.
He is survived by three daughters, Marlene Wall and husband David of Elrama, Janice Kubica of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Susan Secrist of Monongahela; two grandsons, Mark Wall and wife Christina and Daniel Wall and wife Jenelle; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Meghan and Bryan Wall.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Alice Kois Kubica, who died in 1965; four brothers, Matthew, Thomas, Charles and Edward Kubica; and four sisters, Mary Caklos, Ann Shimshock, Julia Kostelnik and Marguerite Shinsky.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 1, in St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Elrama, with the Rev. Robert Boyle as celebrant. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Thomas Cemetery, New Salem.
The Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard will conduct services at 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard, c/o Frank Lomago, 438 Alexander Street, Monongahela, PA 15063.
