Paul Walsh Obituary

Paul J. Walsh, 51, peacefully passed away Friday, March 11, 2016, from metastatic bladder cancer. The world lost one of its brightest souls.
He was a strong man who exuded kindness and found great joy in making the people around him happy. He maintained a positive attitude through any challenges placed before him, creating an aura of contentment that put everyone at ease.
Mr. Walsh enjoyed life on every level with his wife and best friend, Teresa, whom he married September 3, 1988. He was the proud father of six children, Brenna, Conor, Aidan, Liam, Kieran and Fiona. His happiest moments were spent around the kitchen table talking and laughing with them.
His career as a lawyer allowed him to use his refined problem solving and listening skills to help his clients.
Mr. Walsh was a graduate of St. Joseph's University and Duquesne University School of Law. He began his professional career as a law clerk to the Honorable Gustave Diamond, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He was proud to have completed mediation training at Harvard Law School and training in the principles on Non-Violent Communication with Marshall Rosenberg, the movement's founder.
Early in his career, he served Washington County as a child advocate and assistant district attorney. In 1997, he opened his own law practice. Additionally, for the last six years, he worked as a hearing officer for Allegheny County Criminal Court Division.
Mr. Walsh was born May 6, 1964, the first born son of Joyce Walsh (John) Thiessen of Pottstown and the late Paul J. Walsh Sr.. He grew up in Audubon.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, children and mother, are three brothers, Mike Walsh of Collegeville, Tim (Pam) Walsh of Schwenksville and Brian Walsh of Skippack; four sisters-in-law, Janice McGraw of Canonsburg, Patricia and Paula McGraw, both of Falls Church, Va., and Coleen McConaghy of Langeloth; a brother-in-law, Daniel McGraw of Burgettstown; six nieces; and a nephew.
He provided a glowing example of how to live life through a commitment to professional and personal excellence. He was an accomplished triathlete. He touched the world in a positive light in many ways, leaving a legacy of joy, compassion and love.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Monday, March 14, in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown. All who remember him fondly are invited to a tribute at Slovan Veterans of Foreign Wars, immediately following the service.
Since he was a generous and considerate person, possessing a remarkable combination of strength and sensitivity, the family suggests, as a way to honor his memory, performing an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in remembrance of him.

Dear Teresa-
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Paul's passing (late) and I am so sorry for your loss! (ours too!)
I always respected and admired Paul and his ethical gentle ways.
As a business owner in your area, I looked to him once professionally and tried referring folks in need of his services more than a few times.
I also want you to please feel free to talk with me as I lost my spouse early with a large family and all that entails. I certainly wish to help in any way I can--even if it's just to be an ear.
My cell is 724-255-1255 and my daily business line is 724-255-1255
All my prayers and heartfelt condolences to you and your beautiful family
Eternal Memory for Paul!
Love in Christ,

March 14, 2016

Dear Walsh family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Wanted to let you know what a joy it was to work with your husband and dad. His eyes lit up every time he talked about you guys, which was often. I had the pleasure of working with Paul every Tuesday in the Allegheny County Courthouse. In his capacity as Hearing Officer and I as his assistant we had people from every walk of life imaginable stand in front of us and he treated them ALL the same. There were many, many times that these individuals thanked him for his kindness and fair treatment. He always told me that he believed kindness was a better way to help heal our ailing communities more so than admonishment or jail. I have learned so much from your love one and will treasure his friendship forever.

My deepest condolences, Rhonda

Teresa and family, although we have never met please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. Joyce and I have been friends since 1977 which is when PJ was 12. I admired him then and from reading his obit and messages from other people he continued to be a loving husband and father and just a thoughtful and caring person. I can relate to your family as I lost my father at 12 and my husband at 49. You are in my prayers. Take one day at a time.
