Terrence "Terry" McAuliffe, 77, of Melbourne, Fla., passed away peacefully, in his home, Thursday, February 9, 2023. He was born February 27, 1945, in Oak Park, Ill., to Thomas and Onalee McAuliffe. He grew up in Encino, Calif., with his four brothers, who together were a force to be reckoned with.
Terry graduated from Birmingham Senior High School, Class of 1963, and later enlisted into the United States Army.
After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Terry took a job with Wade Dairy in Connecticut, where he met Kathleen McDermott Schilling. They married July 17, 1972, and settled outside Pittsburgh. Together they had two children, Kelly Onalee McAuliffe Brandenburg and Brent Thomas McAuliffe.
As a family, they restored a 19th century Victorian home known as the Montgomery Mansion in Claysville, to beyond its original beauty. Terry's skilled wood work, design ideas, and ingenuity in restoration is a legacy that continues to reside in the beauty of the house.
Terry was a loyal and protective father and grandfather who built a successful environmental business, Petroclean, Inc., headquartered in Carnegie. His work ethic, common sense and moxie provided stability and prosperity for his business and his family from 1978 to 2007 at which time he retired. Terry lived the rest of his retirement years in both Encinitas, Calif. and Melbourne, Fla., where he was surrounded by his family.
He lived a life full of adventure, from flying planes and riding motorcycles to eating fine food and drinking fine wine. Terry undoubtedly enjoyed his life, but his greatest fulfillment came from the love of his children and grandchildren.
Terry is survived by his children, Kelly (Daniel) Brandenburg of Plantation, Fla., and Brent (Morgan) McAuliffe of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Izabella Onalee Brandenburg, Bo Thomas Brandenburg and Brynn Onaleigh McAuliffe; brothers, Brant McAuliffe and Kent (Suzanne) McAuliffe; former wife, Kathleen (the Rev. Walter) Schilling; in-laws, James McDermott and Nancy Price; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, Onalee Seibert McAuliffe and Thomas McAuliffe; brothers, John "Jack" McAuliffe and Richard "Dick" McAuliffe.
In lieu of a funeral service, and to honor Terry's wishes, the immediate family shall hold a private gathering of remembrance. All those who wish to pay their respects and remember Terry together are welcome to raise a glass of the finest Chianti on his birthday, February 27, 2023.
