HUGH CLELAND
Hugh Cleland 'Jerry' Brewer, Jr., formerly of Wilton and Darien Connecticut, Twin Bridges, Montana, and Ocala, Florida, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 13, 2014. He was 89.
Mr. Brewer graduated from Taft school in 1942 and attended Harvard College. He served in World War II, 75th Infantry Division, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His banking career began at First National City Bank (Citibank), where he worked for nearly thirty years; he retired in 1989 from the Bankers Trust Company. An avid sportsman, he was an accomplished fly fisherman, hunter, and a champion golfer. He was also a private pilot and a keen bridge player.
He was predeceased in 2005 by his wife of forty-nine years, Diana Burkett Brewer. He had five children: Hugh Cleland Brewer III; Daryln Brewer Hoffstot; Jeffrey Stott Brewer; Jennifer Brewer Giem; and David Mitchell Brewer, and twelve grandchildren.
