Steven Strawn Obituary

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Steven M. Strawn, 57, of Blue Springs, Missouri and formerly of Oelwein, died on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019.
A memorial service will be 10:30?a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Friends may visit 4-7?p.m. Friday and for one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home. A military service will be conducted at 7?p.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9 Honor Guard. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com
Steven Mark Strawn was born on Feb. 16, 1962 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Delbert John and Anna Mae Yolanda (Hermsen) Strawn. He attended Sacred Heart School and then Oelwein Community High School where he participated in athletics and graduated in the class of 1980. He continued his education at a community college in Spencer. Steve joined the U.S. Navy where he honorably served for four years. Steve was married to Mary Bork and they later divorced. Steve had worked at Fareway in Oelwein during high school and continued in the grocery business at Price Chopper in Blue Springs.
Steve was an avid Kansas City Chief's, Kansas City Royal's and Iowa Hawkeye Fan. His high school friends will remember him as always having a lot of fun, always being in the thick of the action and his great smile. Steve enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephew.
Steve is survived by his mother Anna Mae Strawn of Oelwein; sister Christine (Steve) Masters of Oelwein; 2 brothers: David (Cherri) Strawn of Independence and Rick Strawn of Ankeny and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, brother Jerry and his loving companion of over ten years Linda Patty.
