Andrew Samuelson Obituary
John was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School, Boston College and the MIT Executive Institute.
Preceding John in his death was his wife, Rita (McAlonan); his parents, Margaret (Shannon) and Peter Samuelson; brothers, Leo, Alfred and Francis. John is survived by his sister, Eileen (Carr); daughter, Anne Hogan (husband Philip); and grandsons, Andrew and Patrick of Burlington, N.C.; son, Andrew Jr. (wife Shelley); and grandsons, Andrew III and Ian of Akron, Ohio; son, James (wife Patricia) and grandchildren, Gunnar, Heddie, and Adelle of Columbus, Ohio.
John was a veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of Sergeant and fought in Iwo Jima Battle; he was recognized with a Presidential Letter of Commendation for exemplary heroism. Following his days in the service and education, John joined Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and later Firestone Canada. He traveled extensively throughout the world and later retired from Smithers Scientific Services, in Akron, Ohio.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, John enjoyed vacations with family at Cape Cod and playing golf.
A private family graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Hilary Church, 2750 West Market Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

To the Samuelson Family...Many years ago I had the opportunity to work with Andy at Firestone. He was truly a gentleman, a class person in every sense of the word, and was well liked and respected by employees at every level. Know that he, and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
