Barbara Steinkerchner Obituary

Barbara Steinkerchner Barbara passed away on September 11, 2011 after a 17 month battle with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Barb was born on July 29, 1957 in Lima, Peru then lived in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico before going to Bucknell University where she received a BA in Economics and Spanish. She later got a MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College and another from Case Western University. After graduating from Bucknell, Barb went to work for AT&T where she worked for 30 years. She had a very successful career holding such positions as National Account Manager, International Sales Channel Manager, International Marketing Director and Global Access Product Manager. Barb won many corporate awards including Presidents' Club, Leaders' Council, Diamond Club, Global achievement awards and many more. Barb was also very active in the community working with the International Institute, Junior League of Akron, Corporate Volunteer Council, and Member of the Akron Art Institute. Barbara was a great wife and mother, leaving behind her husband, Mark; and twins, Lauren and Daniel. She worked hard to make sure we stayed a close family while encouraging everyone to be active in sports and many organizations. She loved to travel the world and show the family as much of it as she could. Barb is also survived by her parents, Janet and Bob Metzger; brother, David (Sarah) and family; brother, Bob and family; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Roberts (Pat) and Joan (Bill) Moore and their families; father-in-law, Ed Steinkerchner; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Barb has recently set up the ``Barb Steinkerchner's Giving Legacy' Foundation in which volunteers can apply to receive financial help with their own volunteer projects. Barb has always worked to give back to her community and feels this is a way to help others ``leave the world a better place then they found it'. In lieu of flowers, donations to ``Barbara Steinkerchner's Giving Legacy' may be sent to, The Akron Community Legacy, 345 West Cedar St., Akron, OH 44307. Dear Steinkerchner family,

I was a 9th grade classmate of Barb's in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I heard about her passing today and wanted to pay my respects. She was a very sweet person back then, and I can see that she was well loved and left a legacy. Comparing her recent picture with her yearbook photo, it looks like she had not aged one bit. May you all be comforted by your faith in your loss.

Dear Mark, Lauren and Daniel - I worked with Barb for several years when she was the AT&T acct rep for BFGoodrich. She was always smiling, helpful and kind and I told her many times she looked like she stepped off a magazine cover because she was always so beautifully dressed. I remember how thrilled she was when she got pregnant and I know from numerous conversations with her that she just adored all of you and I'm sure she's watching over all of you now. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

To Mark and Barbs family,

Some people make a difference just by who they are, Barb, you did that in all your endeavors. The world will be a little less bright, but that light will shine within us forever with the memories you shared by being a part of our lives. Thanks, Barb for taking us in with your infectious smile and laughter, your love for all, and making the world a better and brighter place as you walked among us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, Mark, Dan & Lauren.

Barb was my first manager when I came to Ohio in 1987. She was a good manager but a better friend. We especially enjoyed the almost 20 straight years we worked the Red Cross Thanksgiving Dinner together with many other AT&T friends. Our kids shared the same experience and it was a treat watching them grow into such wonderful young adults. Barb left a wonderful legacy. We will miss her dearly. May God Bless you and fill your hearts and minds with wonderful memories of her.
Mark, Danny and Lauren...you will be in our hearts and prayers.

Dear Mark, Dan and Lauren, We are thinking of you and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Barbara was such a thoughtful and kind person. She will be greatly missed. Rod and I were remembering how she came over to our home as soon as we moved into Bathcrest. It was a very cold and blustery day in December, 1989. She brought us warm pasta from Papa Joe's, a big salad, and a bottle of wine. It was so sweet! We really didn't have any food to eat and it was our first night there on Pelee Drive. So we very much appreciated her kindness. We also remembered the fun neighborhood parties she had, like the "hat party." (I was pregnant with Sharon then, so Stephen would have been about four years old). I remember visiting with the neighbors in your beautiful backyard and the kids playing together and having a great time. I also remember that when Sharon was around 18 months old, Barbara invited us over for an Easter Egg Hunt and party; and the Roberts were there. Sharon and Erica met for the first time at that party! Barbara was such a special person. We have so many happy and wonderful memories of her. We are thinking of you, Mark, Daniel, Lauren, the Roberts, and all of your family during this difficult time. We will pray that God is with you and He comforts you. With Sincere Sympathy, Robin, Rodney, Stephen and Sharon Caldwell Bath, Ohio

I remember when my brother, sister and I would bring our puppy, Cuddles over to your house so she could play with her sister, Lucky.
