Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors - AmarilloTimothy James Sougstad, 67, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on February 15, 2026.
Tim was born September 12, 1958 in Ft. Worth, TX to the late Orris and Mildred Sougstad. He graduated from Jefferson Moore High School in Waco, TX. He then attended Texas Lutheran in Seguin, TX, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. Tim also earned a Master’s degree in English from the University of North Texas and a PhD in English from the University of Missouri.
Tim taught both at the university level and more recently, at the Hereford Center for Accelerated Learning, where he took great joy in his work. Tim was truly beloved by his students. He possessed a brilliant mind, a strong moral compass, a wry and quirky sense of humor (exemplified by the names of his three cats: Orris, Millie, and Timmy), and a steadfast appreciation for the musical stylings of Tom Waits. Tim found fulfillment in his time as an elder in the Presbyterian church and was proud to be the son of a Lutheran minister. He loved his family very much.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Erin Laura Seifstad of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren Emre and Ilayda Seifstad; and his siblings, Ruth Sougstad of Albuquerque, N.M., and David Sougstad of Amarillo, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 28th, 2026, at St. Luke Presbyterian Church (3001 Bell Street, Amarillo, Texas 79106). Donations in Tim’s memory can be made to the Rebel Animal Rescue.
