She was born in Bellwood, Ill., on Dec. 3, 1930, and is survived by sons, James (Mary) of Green Bay, Wis., Daniel (Mary) of Savage, Minn., and Thomas (Cindy) of Stow, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Alexander, Robert, Genevieve, Thomas, Gregory, Matthew, Philip, Peter, and Katherine; brother-in-law, David Gustman of Jupiter, Fla.; two nephews, and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gilbert; parents, Harold Neary and Bernice and Otto Braun; and twin sister, Marilyn.
Carolyn graduated from Proviso High School in 1948 and MacMurry College in 1952. She was a physical education teacher in the Waukegan Public School District for over 30 years. She also taught at Holy Child High School. She was a charter member at Faith United Methodist Church in Waukegan, Ill., and served on several committees and boards for the church. Carolyn served as president and board member for the Chicago Area and National United Volunteer Services Organization. She volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels, Blind Bowlers, Waukegan Lions Club, Veteran's Administration, and was past president of the Bonnie Brook Women's Golf League.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Living Faith United Methodist Church, 414 N. McAree Rd., Waukegan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Living Faith United Methodist Church for the Carolyn Memmen Memorial Fund.
