Charles Anthe Obituary

Charles J. Anthe

Charles J. Anthe, born January 23, 1914, in Icara, Greece, passed away July 1, 2007.

A long time area resident, he graduated from Central High School. Mr. Anthe was a well known restauran-teur, beginning his career at the Garden Grille as a dishwasher and leaving there as the head chef to open the Central Paradise Cafe with his brother, Nick. In 1958, they opened the Canteen Restaurant on State Road and, following a fire in '62, returned to the Paradise on Bowery Street. In 1969, along with his sons, he opened Anthe's on Manchester Road, retiring in 1975. Mr. Anthe will be remembered for his strong work ethic who, on many days, started at 6 a.m. and finished at 10 p.m. He believed in quality food, good service and fairly priced meals. Anthe's was Mecca for patrons all over the area. He was also an avid pool and golf player. Simply put, he had no complaints and lived a wonderful life.

Preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Pauline, he will be sadly missed by his sons, John and Jim (Merrilee); grandchildren, Charles (Prashanthi) and Jimmy; sister, Chrysa Loizos; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and Ahepa Service 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Chapel, 39 S. Miller Rd., where friends may call 4 p.m. until service time. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
