Cody J. Towne, age 30, passed away on March 23rd, 2020 in Concordia, Kansas. Cody was born on October 16th, 1989 and raised in Akron, Ohio, having graduated from Kenmore High School in 2008. Cody was a free-spirit, and utilized his time travelling the United States living in New York, California, and most recently-Kansas. Cody is survived by his parents: Brian and Frances Towne of Akron; and sisters, Jackuelyn (Daniel) Towne-Roese and Jillian Neal, both of Akron. The family is not planning an open memorial at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A small family memorial may be organized at a later date. My best friend. My mentor. My brother. My guide. My will to find a reason to live. My rock. My protector. The yin to my yang. So much of me and my healing (from my own demons) came from this man having the patience to sit with me through the darkest of my dark and talking it through with me. And, oh the number of times I was able to do the same for him. Me and Cody met online in 2010 and immediately became fast friends. We had a falling out and became friends again in 2011. We lost that friendship and picked it up again another 3 or 4 times before 2012. We both knew that even when not having talked, in days, weeks, months, or even years, that the other was only ever a call or message away. And that was when Cody decided that Creed’s song “My Sacrifice” was our song. All because of the opening lines “ Hello My Friend/ We meet again/ It’s been Awhile/ Where should we begin”. And that talking not talking cycle continued through the 10 years of friendship we shared.
I tell this story because I can’t wait to find out which one of us will start singing this song first when we meet in the afterlife. For with out a doubt I know this will be our greeting once again.
Rest easy My Friend. Until we meet again!

Cody was a different kinda guy. A pain in the butt sometimes. But, he had a good heart. He would help anyone he could. He just wanted happiness for himself and all around him. He and I talked many many times about his thoughts. We worked hard together during a dark time in his life and I made him promise to stay here on this earth with us. During that time, he did. Mental illness is no joke. Cody didn't deserve to struggle with it the way he did. My heart breaks for him and his family. God bless all of them with strength and love please.

I loved having Cody as my student at Kenmore High. He played in the Handbell Ensemble and served as a faithful member of stage crew for our drama productions. He was always inquisitive, playful, and eager to help. Much love to Jackie, Jillian and Mom and Dad. May he rest in peace!
