David Shavers Obituary

David was born in Akron on February 16, 1952 to Mr. Henry and Eunice Shavers, both deceased. In addition, David was preceded in death by his brother, William Wright Jr. and Richard Shavers; sisters, Annie Wilson and Carol McIntyre; and grandparents, Mr. Edinburgh and Lillie Mae Greene.
He attended South High School of Akron and graduated in 1972. Upon graduation, David joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for two years and was honorably discharged. After returning, he worked for the B&O Railroad. At the time of death, he was employed as a maintenance worker for Akron Metropolitan Housing.
From early in life, Mr. Shavers had an appreciation for family and home life. He extremely loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was loving to them, consistent, and never absent from their lives. He established a close bond with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing pool and walking. David saw walking as relaxation.
He is survived by and leaves to cherish his memories, ex-wife, Sandra Butler; daughter, Carla Gibbs; sons, Sidney and Matt Sherroll; stepsons, Keith (Britney) and Shann (Stephanie) Butler; granddaughters, Ashley Armstrong, LaTajah Leatherwood, Daylicia, Dior, and Alexis Walter; grandsons, Keith Jr. and Dominic Butler; great-granddaughters, Aniyla McLane and Lanijae Leatherwood; uncle, Raymond Greene of Huntsville, Ala.; and six siblings: Judith, Cheryl and Alice Shavers of Akron, Holly Forney and Denise (Lee) Bolin of Akron, and Edith Lillie of Gaithersburg, Md.; as well as lifelong friend, Arthur McNeil and Haywood Wilkens and a host of family and friends.
Calling hour will be held Friday, 2 to 3 p.m., March 4, 2016, followed by funeral service, at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, Evangelist Edith Lillie will officiate. Arrangements handled by Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St. Akron.

Sorry to hear of the lost of your Love One,my condolences goes out to Cheryl and the entire Shavers' Family. I can remember back to the days at Allen Elementary School, many,many. years ago and Thornton Park where friendship was developed at and where friendship still remains TODAY.
