Erwin Herman Obituary
Herman, Ph.D.
KENT -- Erwin L. Herman, Ph.D., 71, passed away April 21, 2016.
Born in Keyser, W. Va., he lived in Kent since 2014. Erwin served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and retired as CEO from Barco and Planar Company. He was a professor at Portland State University in System Science, loved to mountain climb and was a car enthusiast, scholar and avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Naomi Herman. Erwin is survived by his wife, LaDonna; daughters, Erin Hoffman of Dublin, Brittany (Peter) Kusky of Austintown; son, Judah (Jacqueline) Herman of Loveland; brothers, Gary Herman of Tallmadge and Jeffrey (Karina) Herman of Florida.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at Tallmadge Cemetery, with Pastor Cary Wadle officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maranatha Village, 233 East Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803 (AG Retired Ministers Home). Military Rites by Mogadore VFW Post.

I was profoundly saddened to read about Al's death! He provided inspirational guidance to me when we worked together at Tektronix, and Planar. I am grateful that I was able to apply his wisdom throughout my professional career.

Al was a good friend in high school,but we kinda drifted apart soon after. I guess that moves us nearer to the end of the road where it all ends. God bless you all and I hope to see you all in heaven for eternal happiness . J Drummond

LaDonna and Family, Please know that Al's Barco and Esterline family are saddened by the loss of Al. We have so many fond memories of him, especially his quick wit, sense of humor and brilliance on thousands of varied topics. Al deeply cared and stood up for people.He always tried to do the right thing for the business and the people. I miss his Monday morning staff meetings where he shared his travels, his projects, his latest shipment from E-Bay, a new book and even his love of the movie "Wall-E". He was unpredictable! I truly respected Al and loved working for him. Al will be missed by many. Sending our sincere sympathy to you all.

La Donna, Erin, Judah and Jackie, Brittany and Pete and all the grandchildren,
My heartfelt condolences, prayers and sympathy go out to all of you. Erwin was one-of-a-kind person who shared his intelligence as well as interesting stories over the years that made us want to hold onto every word. It didn't matter the topic. Most recently at the cookout, I enjoyed hearing him tell about how he obtained his motorcycle and special parts for it from a closed business. He seemed to delight in sharing what a challenge (and deal) it was and how he met it. Hold onto your many memories and with time may they ease your pain and comfort you.
I am sorry that I cannot attend the services, but I will be there in spirit. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Ladonna,Brittany,Erin,and Judah,sorry to hear about the passing of Erwin. I have some fond memories from when I was a kid and Erwin showed how to do sand art in Aunt Mary's, garage. He was the most fascinating and intelligent man I ever knew. If any of you need anything please call me. Love you all, Keri
