Fred Joseph Combs

THEN AND NOW

Fred Combs, 84, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2017 after a short battle with stomach cancer.

He was born Dec. 27, 1932, the son of Ashur and Lula Combs in Akron, Ohio. He remained in the Akron area his entire life with the exception to his duty in the army.

After returning home, he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber where he retired in 1997. He started attending the tent services of Rev. Ernest Angley in 1954. He loved Rev. Angley and the ministry and quickly became part of the building program. He taught Sunday school and worked in the print shop with his good friend Cliff Koon. He was also a bus driver and bus mechanic for the fleet of busses bringing people to the services. He loved being an usher and kept that position for over 60 years. After retirement, he worked numerous other jobs including the VA in Cleveland. He enjoyed driving tour buses for Leon and Gloria Evans.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Louise; a son from a previous marriage, Fred J. Combs, Jr.; his grandchildren, Jenny Reed and Freddie Combs III, and great-grandchildren; sister,

Sylvia Bella of New Orleans, La.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Doris Kovacs; and their daughter and husband, Tony and Lisa Nichols.

Calling hours will be Sat., May 20, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. with services at 1 p.m. at Grace Cathedral, 1055 Canton Rd. Akron, Ohio in Springfield Township, Rev. Chris Machamer will be officiating.

Burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
