Josephine "Adele" Anello (Caniglia), 87, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away March 9, 2009 after a brief illness.
She was born July 21, 1921 in Akron to Enrico and Caroline Caniglia. Her many friends from Acme, Chase Bank, and the Scat cab crew, knew her as "Jo" and she was one of the sweetest most kind and generous persons you could have ever known. Her love for everyone showed in her daily prayers to all and her marvelous homemade Italian cookies.
Josephine worked early on at the Sun Rubber Co., Polsky's department store, Oneil's department store and First National Bank in downtown Akron where she retired. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Enrico and Caroline; husband, Vito; son, William; brother, Romilo; and beloved sister, Jenny. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Linda) of Columbus, Thomas (Al) of North Canton; brother, Kelly of Stow; sister, Caroline Ammons of Akron; daughters-in-law, Dorothy and Judy; grandchildren, Julie (Chip), Steven (Diane), Todd (Diana), and Michael; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Cameron, Gabriel, Zachary, Madeline, Kyle, and Hannah; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Bernard Church, 44 University Ave. in Akron. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron.

I apologize for being one of the last to submit my thoughts but for once in my life I am truly lost for words. I have tried to explain to people in my life that did not know Grandma what her loss meant to me and what I have found is that Grandma has been something of a constant in my life. It is something very faint, very hard to articulate but imagine being able to count on a sound or a taste to be exactly the same no matter the season or the year. Now replace the taste with a cookie and the sound with a laugh. I am still fully expecting to taste a pizzelle this coming holiday season that no matter how hard I try and no matter how many times I ask for the recipe, will never taste like hers. I fully expect that in October that the phone will ring on the 19th and I will get wished a Happy Birthday and I will hear her laugh just as I did 39 times before that. She worried for us, prayed for us, cooked for us and very thoughtfully put us in our place when we needed it.
The next plane ride will scare me because I won't have her prayers before I leave and the required phone call when I land. This years Easter bread is going to be dry. Her Great Grandsons birthday cards that she already bought for them won't get delivered and the list goes on. It all makes me feel a little older and a little tired when I try to explain it and there lies the point. Grandma was not just my relative, she was how I defined so many aspects of who I am and what I prefer that it is virtually impossible for me to account for them all until one comes up and for every one of those I start to miss her all over again. Time may heal, but it will never replace the richness of spirit and love that she gave us all.
I miss you grandma

To all who have shown their kindness, sympathy and words of condolences to my family, we sincerely thank you. For those who have known Mom over the years and some who have had only a brief time with her know what a tender and loving lady she was. Mom leaves with all of her family a rich legacy, not of money or material things, but a legacy that abounds with love, dignity, pride, honesty, and integrity. Mom never just spoke of her religious convictions, she lived it every moment of her life. She knew of a loving and powerful God very well, and God knew her and how special she was to everyone she met.
When Mom silently prayed, God listened to her heart.

I'm one of the SCAT cab drivers who often picked Jo up for Dr. appointments or grocery shopping, and I know I speak for my co-workers when I say that we will all miss her very much. She was by far my favorite passenger and it saddens me that those rides are at an end. She was a great woman and always had a smile for me, and some times a doughnut! I'm truly sorry for your family's loss.

Oh mom will the pain ever go away? What a hugh part of my heart is gone. Never to feel your soft touch or tender words of warnings. "Wash your hands honey", "lock your door honey", "be careful honey"......you were the best mom ever, that anyone could hope for or have. You never missed one of our birthdays, anniversarys or just letting us know how special we were to you. Everyone was "Honey", Strangers or friends.
Thank you mom. We all thank you so much for all your love.
I love and miss you so much sweetie. Tommy
