Together Again

CITY OF GREEN -- Joyce L. Givens, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2016.

Born and raised on Cape Cod in Brewster, Massachusetts, Joyce joined the Air Force where she met her husband, Robert Givens who was there on special assignment from the Navy. They were married for 54 years before his passing in 2005.

Joyce was retired from B.F. Goodrich, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was an active member of The Chapel in Green. One of Joyce's favorite activities was dining weekly with her daughter, Karen at Bobby's Bistro in Green, where she was known and loved by the staff.

Preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Robert; her parents, Raymond and Louise Rogers; brothers, Raymond Jr. and Richard; and sister, Ann Youngren. She is survived by her children, Karen Young, Kevin (Penny), Robert (Rebecca), Mike (Sarah) and Jeff (Kelly); grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Mitchell, Emily (Spencer) Gordon, Jennifer (James) Geiger, Jessica, Danny, Lauren, Hannah and Arora Givens; and eight great-grandchildren.

Joyce's family would like to extend a special thanks to Mel and JoAnn Davis who were neighbors and great friends to Joyce.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Avenue) with Pastor Steve Bucy officiating. Burial with a flag presentation by Firestone VFW Post 3383 will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. To honor Joyce's tradition of supporting veterans, memorials are suggested to Warriors Journey Home, c/o First Congregational Church, 85 Heritage Drive, Tallmadge, OH 44278.
