I was sad when I heard of Sonny's passing. Being in California, I did not know until today, Feb 12th. Whenever I recall my own experiences of growing up in Akron, Sonny was usually a "partner in crime". No matter what we were doing, delivering papers, fishing, playing pool in the basement on Dorthy Ave., working at the Mayflower Hotel, or playing golf we always laughed a whole lot and always had a good time. Sonny was a good friend with a great sense of humor. In many ways, Sonny was like a brother to me. Please accept my condolences not only for Sonny but also Mrs. Hartman.

Dear Hartman family. I am so sorry to hear about the death of your loved one. I only met Sonny once and that was during the "cold turkey" softball tournament in Ellet in 1976. He was a good man and a great asset to the Ellet Baseball organization and Ellet community. God bless you one and all especially Luann, whom I have recently had an occasion to meet through my daughter Tonja Hetrick what a fine young lady you are, your Dad would have been proud of you.

Uncle Sonny will be missed and remembered so fondly. I don't know how I would have survived my first six months in California without him being so close - making sure I had something to do on weekends until I met some friends (it even included sneaking me into Parents without Partners dances!)By far Uncle Sonny was one of the kindest souls and such an inspiration to look for the best in people. He didn't know a stranger - always had a smile - and never could even think of saying something negative about anyone. He is now safe and free from pain, but will be missed from all of us.

We are so sad to lose our beloved Sonny. He has been such a part of our lives for so many years, going back to the NRM days in the early 70's, serving as one of Gene's ushers at our wedding in 1978 and throughout the many "projects" that he was always so happy to do around our house. We introduced him to General Tso's chicken which I think he ate for 6 months in a row when he lived by the Chinese restaurant. Gene still has the picture Sonny drew at NRM when Gene forgot to put his truck in park and it rolled into the creek and I am sure I won't hear anyone else use the words "bull-jive" to vent their frustrations. Sonny was always such a sweet, caring and giving man who didn't deserve what he got, but maintained his spirit for as long as he could. I will miss him so much and Gene will miss his best friend.

Luann, Ernie, Scott and Mike, please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. I, Tonja, remember him fondly for the role of loving brother-in-law he held when I was a child. He not only made me laugh, but got down on the same level with us children to play alongside us. He is missed, but will be remembered.

Love and hugs from the Hetrick Family: Dan, Tonja, Nathan, Benji, and Megan
