) Fitzsimmons Marilyn (Gorsuch) Fitzsimmons, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 19, 2021. She was born March 21st 1941 in Barberton, OH to the late Wilbur and Katherine (Weinsheimer) Gorsuch. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carroll (Red) Fitzsimmons; her brother, and sister-in-law, Richard (Muriel) Gorsuch. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Cristin (Jeff) Joseph; her sons, Randy (Marnie) Fitzsimmons, Brian (Jennifer) Fitzsimmons; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Niehaus, David Fitzsimmons, Danielle (Bryan) Adams, Tessa, Marc, Erika Joseph, Lindy and Noah Fitzsimmons; and great-grandchild, Lydia and Claire. Marilyn was a 1959 graduate of Barberton High School. Shortly after graduation, she had an unfortunate accident and became an amputee. But she never let this stand in her way. She was determined to live her life to the fullest. She attended Kent State University from 1961 - 1963. She left school to travel and take a job with the East Ohio Gas Company in Akron. Marilyn was a dedicated stay at home mother until her children were grown. She then went back to Kent State and completed her bachelors degree in 1995. After graduating, she worked for the Stark County OH prosecutors office until she retired in 2001. Marilyn took her family on many vacations to Florida to visit her brother and her nieces. After retirement, she and her husband took many trips out west and stayed down in Florida during the winter. A memorial service to celebrate both Marilyn and Carroll (Red's) life will be held on Sunday September 5th at Reed Funeral Home 801 Pittsburg Ave NW, North Canton, OH 44720 Calling hours will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Akron/Canton Food Bank, the American Cancer Society and Crossroads Hospice.
