Marion Thomas Obituary
Marion Eugene Thomas, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Eugene was a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio.
Eugene was born December 13, 1929 to the late James W. and Ida (McGrady) Thomas. He attended Akron Public Schools before joining the U.S. Armed Forces. Eugene served his country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. During his Army service he was a Prisoner of War in Korea for 33 months.
He received the Korean Service Medal, the United National Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart. Eugene was honorably discharged on March 22, 1954.
He retired after 30 years of service from the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg, Ohio. After retirement, Eugene worked 5five years as a messenger for Bank One.
Eugene enjoyed fishing, keeping up with current events, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Barney, Nathaniel and Robert David; sisters, Cora Benford, Lucille Jones and Flora Christian.
He leaves to cherish his memory children, Donald Anthony Shepherd Sr. of Ocoee, Fla., Cynthia Thomas Robinson, David (Franshire) Thomas, Darryl (Kimberly) Thomas all of Akron, Ohio; brother, Charles (Daisy) Thomas Sr. of Detroit, Mich. He leaves 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon) with a home going celebration to immediately follow on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. John CME Church, 1233 South Hawkins Ave., Akron, OH 44320. Pastor Reynard Monmouth officiating. Condolences may be sent to 1019 Copley Rd., Akron, OH 44320.

To the family I extend my love and sadness in your loss. I will always remember the first time I learned how to ride my bike was right there in the front yard on Copley rd.
