Marvin Wein Obituary

Marvin N. Wein (``Buddy') passed away on January 16, 2011 at age 87.

Born in Akron, Ohio on April 3, 1923 to Max and Betty Wein, Buddy was a life-long resident. He graduated from Buchtel High School and attended The Ohio State University. Buddy served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a sergeant in World War II. After his military service, he returned to Akron and began his career with The Holub Furniture Company until his retirement in 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his beloved son, Dr. Mark L. Wein, an oral and maxillo facial surgeon in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mark was a source of extreme pride and joy, and together they shared a love of many common interests.

Buddy met the love of his life, Cynthia, in 1952. They married in 1955 and shared a rich, full life together just one week shy of 56 years. Buddy treasured Cynthia as his partner, his companion, his caretaker and his one true love. He cherished her good humor, her unwavering devotion and her commitment to common values and goals.

Together, Buddy and Cynthia raised two loving and devoted children: son, Mark and daughter, Sheryl Wein Ryckebusch of Dallas, Texas. Buddy and Sheryl shared a deep and abiding love for one another, and enjoyed sharing jokes, Ohio State football games, good food and family times. Sheryl and her husband Jules, whom Buddy grew to love as a son, made Buddy an ecstatic and loving grandfather with the birth of their son, Evan in 1999. Evan's many activities and achievements were a source of constant pride and Buddy treasured their special times together.

The essence of Buddy can be described in his fierce love of family, friends, fishing and football. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished family near and far as the center of his life.

With his infectious sense of humor and his winning smile, Buddy endeared himself to his friends and everyone he met. He added light and life to all who knew him and was truly the consummate gentleman.

Spending time on the water, rod and reel in hand, was Buddy's greatest pleasure in life. Sharing that passion with friends and family, and especially his son Mark, was his ultimate source of contentment.

If fishing was his passion, football was Buddy's obsession. Whether sitting in the bleachers or cheering for his team on television, every game was one hundred yards of pure enjoyment.

Buddy was a life-long member of Temple Israel, The Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron, and for many years was an active member and leader in Northwest Summit (Fairlawn) Rotary Club.

Survived by his wife, Cynthia; daughter, Sheryl; grandson, Evan; sister, Carolyn Lieberman of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews, Buddy leaves a legacy of integrity and zest for life.

Following a private interment by the family, funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19 at 12:30 p.m. at Temple Israel, 133 Merriman Road, Akron. Immediately following services, family and friends will gather in the Temple Israel Social Hall. The family will receive visitors at their home Wednesday, January 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, January 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the Dr. Mark L. Wein Special Events Fund at Temple Israel, Hospice Center at 3358 Ridgewood Rd. in Akron, or a charity of your choice.

Didnt really know him personally...only met him once...but he was married to Cynthia Gergel Wein and as she was always one of my favorite people in the world, so he had to be one great guy. Sheryl obviously had two terrific roll models...and it shows

From the moment I met him, Uncle Buddy had a marvelous way of making me feel like I had always been part of the family, something that continues to touch my heart to this day. He had the rare ability to be completely genuine at all times while always remaining a gentleman- always so kind, generous, and very, very funny. Bruce, Alex, and I loved him dearly, and will miss him very much. Our love goes out to you all.

Mrs. Wein and Sheryl-l always remember, with a smile, the many times that Mr. Wein drove Sheryl, Amy and me to Erie Island Elementary School. He drove us in all kinds of bad weather. I can still recall the WAKR news broadcasts and tune that played on the radio as he drove us to school. Just another example of the kindness that he showed so many people. I was always a little in awe of him as a child because he ran a furniture store. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time.

Buddy was like a second father to me. From teaching me and my son Brad to only turn the steaks once on the bbq to the many hours of instruction with Mark and me on Lake Nippising, Buddy combined humor and passion to make everyone around him feel special. I will always be grateful for the warmth and generous hospitality that Buddy and Cybthia always provided the visitor from the Great white North!

I will always remember Uncle Bud as a jovial man with a great sense of humor (as with the Wein/Gergels). I think back the the reunions and the love that he and Mark had for fishing. I know of the bond he had with Sheryl and now and later with his grandson Evan; They were the light of his life. Jules also shared a strong relationship with his father-in-law. Finally, It's rare to see relationships as strong as Aunt Cynthia and Uncle Bud. They are role models for all of us. With love, prayers, and sadness; the family is in my thoughts!

There's an open gate at the end of the road through which each must go alone, And there, in a light we cannot see, Our Father claims His own... Beyond the gate, Buddy will find happiness and rest, and there is comfort that our loving God knows best. May this same God who has welcomed Buddy home, keep you and your family in His care through this difficult time. We love you, and yours, please call if we can do any thing to help.
