Richard Engum Obituary

Richard Arlen Engum

Richard Arlen Engum, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family August 17, 2017.

Dick was born August 31, 1938 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. After graduating from Glenwood High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was a medic. Richard had two years of College however, he continued his career as a Certified Dental Technician, owning his own Labs. He took a two year break from lab ownership to teach Dental Tech at R.G. Drage Career Technical Center in Massillon, Ohio. Never liking to be idle, in retirement Dick worked part-time at the Fairlawn compactor.

Dick wanted to be busy either at his Lab or keeping his yard beautiful. He loved hunting with his Uncles in Wisconsin and fishing with his brother. He loved talking to everyone; he always found new "friends" every place he went.

Dick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen (Holmquist); his five daughters, Kristine (Steven) Lefkowitz, Kimberly (Dennis) Dunagan, Suzanne Engum of Atlanta, Ga., Carole (Daniel) Biedrzcki of Arlington, Texas and Elizabeth (Robert) Smith; grandchildren, Jenna Stevenson, Alec Biedrzcki of Texas, Sawyer Smith; brother, James Engum of Menomonie, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 31st, and the memorial service will be held on Friday, September 1st. at 11 a.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., The Rev Charles Lentner officiating. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron Woman's City Club or one of your favorite charities.

Karen, as you know, Dick and I graduated from GCHS in 1956 - tough as stones rough as bricks- so the memories go back a long way.

And they all are really great ones - Dick's attitude on life as you well know was an uptick and it was contagious for all of us who had the privilege to know him.

The last time we were together was in New Richmond, Wis. at a class reunion where we had a great time with you and Dick!'

We share your sorrow on his death.
