Roy Allen Obituary

STOW -- Roy Allen, age 80, passed away at home July 17, 2021, after a lengthy battle with myasthenia gravis. He was born in Cincinnati to Joseph and Waneta Allen of Norwood, and was a graduate of Columbiana High School and a 1978 Kent State graduate. A corporate tax accountant, he retired from Alside Inc. (Associated Materials) and worked for Koroseal lnterior Products. He was a CPA. Roy was a newspaper career starting at age 10 for the Columbiana Ledger as a paper boy and worked his way up to sports reporter in high school, printer, and managing editor by the age of 26. He will be remembered for his love of sports, refereeing high school football for 40 years, umpiring fast pitch softball, and operating the Hiram College scoreboard, timing their football games. Other loves were home and family, the news, Kent State activities, and scratch off lottery tickets. He leaves behind his homecoming queen wife, Joyce (nee Blosser), of 57 years; two sons, Joshua (Becky) of Lebanon, NH and Judson (Mollie) of Doylestown; six grandchildren, Connor and Emma of New Hampshire, Ellie, Sebastian, and Ainsley of Doylestown, and Michael, U.S. Navy; sister, Darlene Ervin of Gerrardstown, WV and niece, Deirdra of Bruceton Mills, WV. Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your own or The Roy E. Allen and Joyce L. Allen Endowed Scholarship Fund #38894, KSU Foundation, P.O. Box 5190, Kent, OH 44242. Please make checks payable to the KSU Foundation.
