Stella Artis Obituary

Stella L. Artis (Bronner)

Stella L. Artis (Bronner), 79, of Akron, Ohio passed away on March 14, 2017. She was born on August 29, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. Stella worked and retired from Ford Motor Credit. After retirement she went back to work at Fairlawn Wal-Mart for 15 years as a greeter. Stella loved many things: bowling, watching golf, and the Minnesota Vikings football team. But most of all, she loved her family.

Stella was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred E. Powell and her sisters, Frances Harris and Martha Bronner. She is survived by her children, D'Antoinette "Toni", Gail, Diona, Mildred, Quintin (Terry), Todd, and Benjamin "Benny" (Dean'na); her sister, Connie Chapman; her sixteen grandchildren; her twenty one great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

A special thanks to the 5200 Wing at Akron General, Dr. Richard Nemer, Dr. Frederick Marquinez, and the staff at the Hospice Care Center.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Stella will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44305) at 2 p.m. Family and friends will call one hour prior. Condolences can be sent for the family to 1500 Marion Ave. Apt. 709, Akron, Ohio 44313. Memorial donations in Stella's name may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Stewart's Caring Place (2955 W. To the family of Stella my deepest sympathy for the passing of this special person. I worked with her at Montrose Ford and it was a hot. I was the first one there in the morning and Stella would bring me breakfast and a great big hug. When she retried and went to Wal-Mart to work I would purposely go to the Walmart in Fairlawn does to receive one of her great big hugs. I will dearly miss my friend . She taught me alot.

To Ms. Stella's Family: I got to know Ms. Stella at work at Walmart. She was the sweetest person I've known. She and I almost shared a birthday together and we had gone out a few times to celebrate our lives and fun and her help to me after loosing my husband. She never frowned or complained. (Even tho' it was cold at the front door.) She was always there to smile at everyone there and loved her time with people. She was blessed with wonderful children, of which she spoke of often. We joked about how many grand-children we have but she always beat me, I don't have great grands. I missed her when she left us and I will miss her more. Thank you for sharing her with us. God Bless

Thank You Lord for allowing me time during my formative years to spend at Ms. Stella's house. As a child I had the pleasure of spending many hours in Ms.Stella's home. Although she had seven kids, she still made room for one more to share a meal and take up time with. There was order in her home; clothes hung, toys in their boxes, time for study, chores, tv, prep for tomorrow and bedtimes. A consistent daily routine infused with plenty of Love. My family lived next door at the corner of Cedar and Bishop streets, in the valley where so many memories were made. Ms. Stella and my mother were very good friends...Basically Ms. Stella had permission and full support to take whatever necessary actions to keep, put and maintain me in my respectful and obediant place while I was a guest...Yes, very few times I did get that look over the glasses which gave me immediate pause with full understanding, to pull it together now! And that was that!

I am so thankful we were able to reconnect after many many years of me being away serving our country. I was able to hug her and let her know that her words of wisdom, encouragement and enlightenment during those times I visited were really well received, fully understood and truly appreciated. Priceless, were those moments spent with her as a child and recent times whenever we spoke. Our last conversation a few weeks ago, we talked about my Moms hot bisquicks and Alaga Syrup. Ms. Stella laughed while telling me that she was in the process of making her some pancakes and she had a bottle of Alaga syrup in her cupboard ready to go.

I admit, she made it look easy to raise her family on a fixed income with limited opportunities for occassional work during the 60s. As I reflect back during that time. Sharing with others, being kind, having patience, keeping your word, being helpful, being a good listener, maintaining a positive outlook, being humble and Respect, Respect and Respect again was the foundation of her life's message and journey. She valued education and instilled a work ethic into her youngones as well as, a firm understanding about taking care of whatever you had. These were just a few of life's lessons that were taught in her home. They are a part of the treasure chest of memories I have collected and will cherish the rest of my life. I feel so good knowing that she knew, the time the Lord allowed us to cross paths, were not wasted on me. Ms. Stella I saw and heard you!

Tony, Gail, DeeDee, Wayne, Evette, Todd and Bennie, "Thank You All" for sharing your Mom with me and so many others. She will be missed but she will never ever be forgotten. May She Rest In Heavenly Peace!
