After graduating from high school in Akron he joined the U.S. Navy and was a Combat Search and Rescue Swimmer and Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator for five years. While in the Navy he was once tasked to rescue President Corazon Aquino from the roof of Malacanang Palace in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he lived in San Diego for more than 20 years and worked at the Naval Air Station, North Island, Coronado, California until he took a position overseas and worked at the Udairi Army Airfield in Kuwait and then in Iraq.

He was a devoted father and is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beloved son, Michael Majdanik, of San Diego; his parents, Barbara and Donald Majdanik of Akron; brother, John (Kay) Majdanik of Indianapolis; sisters, Jocelyn (Gregg) Whisler of Midlothian, Virginia, Teresa (Joseph) Kastelic of Houston, Kathryn Majdanik of Akron and many nieces and nephews. Our Lord has led him to greener pastures.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Baize at Humphrey Mortuary, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, California, 91910 where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and say their goodbyes on September 18, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Just now seeing that Steve passed. We lost Mike Fenwick and Steve in the same year. Steve was a very good person, and never was into cliques and was very mature and a leader early on. Very adventures, it was great getting to know him better in troup 96. Praying for his son and the Majdaniks, Rich McCarty

My sincere condolences to Steve's family and friends. I knew him in San Diego during his AW flying days and than later when he was working in the "hot-refuelling" pits. I was always glad when I knew it was him doing the fueling because he was well-trained on the H-2 helicopter.

Majdanik Family,
I'm very sorry to hear about Steve. I have some great memories of Steve from grade school and especially from Boy Scouts. Steve was quiet yet always had us laughing and I always saw the wheels turning in his head as I know how smart he was. I am really not surprised at all that Steve accomplished as much as he did in his short life. I'm sorry I wasn't able to see you in person but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I wasn't fortunate enough to meet Steve. I wish I had. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about him and his son always spoke of him with so much love. I am a good friend of his son, Mikey Majdanik. I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers and condolences go out to your family. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

I have been flooded with so many memories of my old friend Steve since learning of his passing. The times we shared "surviving" at Buchtel High School, our countless hours at "the churchyard", my visit to San Diego to see him when I was in graduate school in 1988. He showed me Tiajuanna, Mexico, the Pacific Ocean- California style, Balboa Park and the infamous San Diego Zoo, where we rode an elephant together. There was hunting for Christmas trees at Rogues Hollow Tree Farm, a day of fun in the sun at Mentor Headlands, countless hours just hanging out and I will never forget his long green trenchcoat that he always wore each winter, which was so warm because he let me wear it one time. Steve was always up for an adventure, and that is what I always loved about him. I had not talked to Steve for almost 8 years now, somehow life just seems to get in the way. I will always remember his kind soul and I trust that he is now on my team of guardian angels, watching over me. I will miss the "Majik" of my old friend Steve Majdanik. My deepest sympathies for his son Michael and family. I was blessed to have been touched by his sweet spirit. He will be missed by many!

To Stephens Son Michael, Father and Mother Don and Barbara. Respect for your grief. I remember how proud our Father was of Stephens choice to be Navy. He and Mom treasured and displayed that young sailors picture and spoke about Stephen with satisfaction to everyone of his bravery. Especially for Michael sympathy for your loss may God comfort you and give you the strength beyond your years to honor your Father's love.
Condolences to the four surviving siblings Josie, Teresa, John, Katie and the hope that they treasure the good times.
I know Stephens Grandparents are greeting him with hugs and butterfly kisses as they did in life. Our Father who art in heaven... with Love Aunt Cynthia and Uncle Mark

My deepest condolences to the Majdanik family. I wish I could have gotten to know Steve better, it seems clear from other guest book entries he was a very good man. I'm all the more grateful that I at least got a few moments to meet him when he visited friends and family in March. Eternal rest grant unto him, may perpetual light shine about him.

I was so thrilled that Steve found me on facebook earlier this summer. We chatted several times while I was on the radio here in Atlanta and he was so gracious & complimentary while listening to my show via the internet.... gave him & all those in the "sand box" who were serving in harm's way (defending & protecting our freedom & way of life) a "shout-out" on the air. He seemed humbled by what I said and got a real kick that "ricky" was a real dj on the radio... I was so much more impressed w/what Steve was doing w/his life, not only did he believe in what he said, he chose to live it! I am the one who was humbled and honored to call Steve a life long friend... I too was excited that he said he would do his best to make his return to the states next summer to coinside w/our old neighborhood kids reunion on the 3rd weekend in July 2010... It was amazing to me that even though we hadn't spoke in close to 30 years, we took up right where we had left off. What a neat guy! Please accept my deepest sympathies and remember that as time passes and the numbness starts to wear off, you will continue to be in my prayers.... Earth's loss is truely Heaven's gain, fondly - Rick

Teresa and family,
I was very sad to hear of the news of Stephen today. A flood of memories came back to me of happy times in our childhood with my brother, Michael and Stephen playing together. Just this year in March, Stephen was in Akron and for some reason stopped to see my parents. They were delighted to see him. This is testimony to Stephen's sweet nature, taking the time to say hello after so many years had passed. I will include all of you and Stephen in my prayers.
