for Thomas Seikel

Not sure what to say?

August 14, 2005

A million times we needed you,

A million times we cried.

If love alone could have saved you,

You never would have died.

In Life we loved you dearly,

In death we love you still,

In our hearts, you hold a special place

No one can ever fill.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn't go alone,

For a part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.

Still missing you, Tommy

August 1, 2005

Tommy,

Still think about you and miss you!

Sometimes your name or maybe your face flashes before my mind's eye and I am reminded of how quickly life can pass...literally in the blink of an eye....my thoughts and prayers still go out to your family.

Dear Dr.& Mrs. Seikel, I can't begin to imagine the depth of pain you must feel at the loss of your son. I knew Tommy from tennis and we had a special connection thru the friendship your son Jim and my son-in-law Jim Kehoe had and still have. Tommy had the most beautiful face, I alway's teased him about being the next "Bachelor". I see him in my minds eye smiling and riding in the golf cart with the sun shining on his blonde hair and his beautiful smile. He was good and kind, words cannot express how he will be missed. My heart and prayers are with you and your family.

I was so sad to hear the news today about Tommy. I didn't know him well but he had an incredible personallity that really shined and will be greatly missed! You can just tell when someone is just a genuine good person and that really stood out with Tommy. He was a great coach to my daughter and I and we will miss his smiling face and great sense of hummor. My sincere condolences to his family.

There are no words to describe the loss of a child, no matter what his age. Tommy reminded me of sunshine and summer on good days. I work at the racquet club and remember his early days there. He seemed shy, unsure and very quiet. Watching him grow over the years, he became very outgoing and confident. He loved children and it showed each and every day. Even on days he seemed moody, once he hit the courts he was on, and challenged the kids to get better while having fun.

The front desk staff was never ready for his 'sneak up from behind'tactics, which scared the wits out of many. I am so sorry I was out of town when this happened. I will hear how his life was celebrated from his friends. Please accept my most sincere sympathies. Tommy will be missed but remembered and loved by all who had the joy of knowing him.

There was always something special about Tommy. I knew that from the day when i met him in 7th grade when he started teaching me tennis. Despite our age difference i always felt incredibly close to tommy. Maybe it was our long blond hair or the fact that i saw myself growing up to be something like tommy. Without tommy i would have never been who i am today. On the court he pushed me hard because he knew i had enormous potential. Off the court we talked about everything, we always shared stories about going out west and skiing and hiking. Knowing someone tommy's age that was so happy doing what he loved really gave me inspiration to follow what i really love in life. I thank you Mr. and Mrs. Seikel for raising such an amazing son. Tommy was truly someone i can only aspire to become. He will forever be remembered by all that he came into contact with.

Taking tennis lessons from Tommy was an incredible amount of fun. He was always so proud of his students when they did well, and loved giving them a hard time when they "messed up"! He had such a great mix of humor and sarcasm. His family stories were always endearing. I feel fortunate to have known him. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this time.

tommy-

if i knew that morning would be the last time that i ever talked to you again, there is so much that i would have said to you. i would have told you what a great coach and person you are, and how much i cherished our friendship. you pushed me to my limits and taught me how to be a better tennis player, off and on the court. you brought happiness to so many lives, mine especially. i cherish the six years that you spent as my coach and you will never be forgotten. every time i walk into the club there will be a void that can only be filled by you. i wish that you could have seen how many people came to your funeral, how many people cared about you....including me and the rest of the varsity girls tennis team. i am blessed to have you in my life, even if it was only for a short time.

dr and mrs. seikel-

i have never met you before, but i wanted to let you know what a wonderful person your son was. he cherished his family above all, and talked about you guys frequently on the courts. i ran into tommy saturday morning at starbucks, and he was the happiest i have seen him in the whole time that i've known him. he was in a really good place in life, and God did truely save the best for last. you all are in my prayers and i hope that the love of God gives you comfort in this time. he is in a better place.

Dear Dr. & Mrs. Seikel & family,

Dear Seikel family,

When I had recieved the news that Tommy had died, I was be side myself. It just didn't seem possible that such a terrible and unfortunate incident could happen to someone who had done nothing but good and gave nothing but help to those around him. I am also a disciple of Tommy's tennis wisdom and have benifited greatly from it. With his help, I achieved a rank of 18th in Northeast, Ohio and have improved my game to levels previously unknown to me.

But, Tommy was not only my Tennis Teacher, he was also my friend. I mourn his loss and can understand the things you must be feeling. I hope that this passage will help you realize the wonderful things that Tommy has done for me and for my family and friends. May his memory never fade.

Sincerly,

Matt McErlean

Dr. and Mrs. Seikel,

...thank you for raising such a fine young man. We will all miss him. In his all-too-short time with us, Tommy charmed everyone he met and dazzled them with his athleticism; but for many of us who have children to whom he taught tennis over the years, he won our hearts for his leadership with the kids. Tommy was nothing less than the "pied piper" of the tennis courts for the children. All the kids adored him -- including both of mine. Heaven surely has another angel today...one wearing OSU wings and swinging a tennis racquet. God bless you and your family, and thank you for encouraging him to follow his dreams during the short time he was on this earth.

Dear Dr. & Mrs. Seikel,

We are saddened to hear of your loss and we extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Though we moved from Hudson two years ago, we have many fond memories of Tommy. All three Beno children enjoyed taking tennis lessons with him and we all appreciated his energetic and friendly personality. Our son's 9th birthday party (Dec. 2001) at Western Reserve was most memorable, as Tommy engaged the group and kept those boys going with lively tennis games. We will always remember how wonderful he was with children and we will never forget Tommy. We hope you will find comfort in knowing that he touched so many lives.

Sincerely,

The Beno Family ~ Paul, Kathleen, Sarah, Brian and Mark

Dr.and Mrs.Seikel,

I am truly sorry for the sadness that fills your world, and for the grief that your family shares. I had the pleasure of taking lessons from Tommy, and feel lucky to have been able to know him for the short time I did. His humor, his patience, and his charm was such a gift. Mrs. Seikel-- he always spoke about his "Mom" as being the best!! and shared stories about growing up with his brothers. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you as you keep close the memories of Tommy.

October 12, 2004

Dear Seikel Family,

When I first set foot in the Western Reserve Racket Club of Hudson/Aurora, I didn't know how to play tenis, or even how to hold a racket. When I saw the bright smile of Tommy as he helped guid me to my first lesson. Seven years later, Tommy tought me everything I know of tennis today, and I have him to thank for all of my success. I knew Tommy well, and along with all of the others that crossed his path, I was extremely fond of him. Fritz Schunk, another friend of Tommy's, siad that my forehand tennis sweing reflected Tommy's, and that above all things has made me proud to be his student. My brother also took lessons from this Master of Tennis, and my whole family was deeply affected by his tradjic passing. I offer my deepest condolences on behalf of myself and all of the other Junior Tennis Players of Hudson. Tommy was a great man who meant the world to me, and I will greatly miss him. Though it is hard to say goodbye to him, I will never forget him and he will live on through those he touched as well as my tennis game. I knew him through tennis, but he was much much more than just a perfect tennis pro: He was an role model. I am sorry for your loss, but Tommy is now in a place far beyond that of Earth. He is in a better place.

Dr. and Mrs. Seikel and Family,

My family has known Tommy for about 6 years. We first met him at the Country Club of Hudson where he instucted my three children in tennis. More recently, our family has taken lessons from him at the Western Reserve Racquet Club. My kids thought the world of Tommy. I truly believe that my 6 year old son loves tennis because of Tommy. Tommy was wonderful with children--patient, kind and funny. He often spoke in glowing terms of his own family and was truly proud of his family. He once told me that his mother could "do it all"--raise five boys and work for his father!!He spoke so proudly of his father, brothers and nieces. He was extraordinarily charismatic, smart, funny, articulate and had a passion for his work. How rare it is to come across a person who is so personable and enthusiastic--he often wore his St. V-M sweatshirt when he instructed me because he knew I attended high school there, just like his father. My entire family will miss him.He was a gem. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family in this time of great loss, The Seibert Family, Darrel, Laura,Stephanie, Amanda and Darrel

Tommy was a great teacher & friend to every member of our family. He loved kids so much and the kids loved being with him (especially when they got to play gladiator). I don't think he ever walked past a kid he knew and didn't say Hi. His patience in dealing with 8 4&5 year olds on a tennis court amazes me to this day.

Dear Mr & Mrs. Seikel,

We are members of WRRC and we had the pleasure of meeting & working with Tommy over the past several years. He provided private lessons for my son, Matt, daughter Caitlin, and also coordinated a drill for several of the womens' group. He was a great mentor for the kids and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him each week. He was professional, but playful, and an excellent teacher, neat person. We were stunned by the news and are unable to make the funeral but wanted to let you know how much of an impact he had on our family and how greatly we will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Seikel Family:

Tommy was a dear and special friend of ours. Our 8-year-old daughter, Hunter, took private lessons from him every Sunday for nearly 2 years, up until our recent relocation to Colorado. He could not have been a more patient man, and we can still hear him giving her instruction, all the while making her comfortable and keeping her laughing. His genuine smile lit up a room. He was so proud of his family, and especially his nieces. In your time of grief, we hope that you are buoyed by the love of family and friends, and the knowledge that your son/brother was a gentleman who was loved and admired by many. We will miss him terribly, but will keep him close in our hearts.

As a member of WRRC and a mother of a daughter on the Aurora Varsity tennis team, I would like to express my sympathy to Tommy's friends and family. We will miss him terribly at the club. He was always so friendly and flashing that great smile. The girls on the tennis team were always thrilled when he was there to help out, even though they knew it meant running more laps and working harder! We will miss you forever.

To Dr. and Mrs. Seikel and family,

The thoughts of knowing how much your son made people smile, loved his work and friends, should stay in your hearts forever! He will be sorely missed.

Tommy,

The great and funny times we had on the court together will be forever cherished in my heart. You were a constant source of wit. I may have come to a drill with worries and concerns on my mind, but you never failed to turn my frown into a smile. I'll remember you forever! Liz (aka Screech)

My daughter and I took tennis lessons with Tommy. My daughter (8 yrs old) said he was the best teacher. We are all saddened to hear about your loss.

Dr. and Mrs. Seikel,

Your son was a very special man who impacted many peoples' lives. He was always outgoing and friendly and his smile was infectious. In your time of grief, please know how much happiness Tommy brought to so many people, of all ages. He was first class and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
