Albert Trumbly Obituary

Albert F. Trumbly Albert was born in Oklahoma City on August 3, 1919 - one of nine children, and passed away on October 28, 2009. Having completed eight years of school in Oklahoma City, Albert left, as was the custom of the time, to help his father make a living during the depression. During WWII, Albert served as a radio operator and waist gunner on the B-24 Liberator bomber. He flew eight missions over Southern Europe and was a participant in the infamous Polesti Oil Raid over Romania. On October 4, 1943, he was shot down over German-occupied France and the entire crew taken prisoners of war. He was imprisoned for 18 months in STALAG 17B in Austria. Albert was liberated on May 2, 1945 by Gen. Patton's 3rd Army. He was subsequently discharged and returned to Oklahoma City. Albert was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Governor George Nigh presented Albert with the Cross of Valor. Albert married Ann Mitchell in October 1945. Albert and Ann's first child died at birth. Albert is survived by four children: James Trumbly of Moore; Nancy Meeks of OKC; Ernest Trumbly of Joplin, MO; and Susan Baker of Edmond. He has several grand- and great-grandchildren.
