Rev. Don R. Davis

Don Davis Obituary

Reverend Don R. Davis was born in Honey Grove, Texas, on December 13, 1935, the oldest son of Roy and Mavis Davis, who both preceded him in death earlier this year. He attended Honey Grove schools, graduated from East Texas State College, and received his Divinity Degree from Texas Christian University. He was called to the ministry at seventeen years old and began serving his first circuit appointment when he was eighteen. His ministry spanned forty-seven years in three states and included several years as an evangelist holding revivals throughout the United States. He served churches in Van Alstyne and Grand Prairie in Texas and Gage, Walters, and Hartshorne in Oklahoma. Most recently, he enjoyed holding devotionals and Bible studies in many area nursing homes and Senior Centers with his wife, Rollo, who survives him along with her children: Ruth Thomas of Elmhurst, Illinois, Ronald W. Miller, M.D. of Encino, California, and Erica Martha Rao of Toronto, Canada. Don's children are Tim Davis and his wife Rebecca of Arlington, Texas, Todd Davis and his wife Donna of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kimberly Davis Mitola and her husband Ron of Meriden, Connecticut. Don's grandchildren are Isaac, Lydia, Elijah, and Matthew of Texas. He is also survived by his brother, David Davis and his wife Jane of Bethany, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Though he suffered several debilitating illnesses during his life, he never gave in or gave up, and constantly displayed an amazing joy for living. He will be remembered by all for his big smile, his booming voice and his love of people. Don served his Master faithfully to the end of his life. Services will be Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 2:00 P. M. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 1755 N. Meridian with burial at Bethany Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
